Walking Tours
For the last 17 years, Rivertownes PA USA has offered an in-depth walking tour of the local Iron Furnace Industry in the spring and fall. These tours last about two hours and showcase the area known as the 'Pittsburgh of the East.'
The tours begin with an overview of the role that the Susquehanna River played in the Industrial Revolution during the mid-1800s to early 1900s. At the Musselman-Vesta Iron Furnace Center, participants will step off for the walk, which will be approximately three quarters of a mile along a flat, paved surface on the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail. Walking Tour attendees will visit seven furnace sites: Marietta Furnaces I and II, Donegal Furnace and Chickies Furnaces I and II before ending at the site of Henry Clay Furnace.
The tours last about two hours. Donations are appreciated, and participants are asked to pre-register. Call 717.314.4060 for information and registration.
